In the past, The Phoenix Storm has strongly supported Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and this season we are broadening the awareness to focus on the NFL Crucial Catch campaign. Each Storm player will receive a Crucial Catch sticker to be affixed to the back of their helmet to bring awareness to cancer prevention and support.
As mentioned above, the Crucial Catch Campaign has expanded the focus from awareness to prevention. We encourage you to take and pass along the Defender quiz sponsored by the American Cancer Society and the NFL at https://thedefender.cancer.org/. Additionally, if you would like to donate directly to Crucial Catch, you may do so at https://donate3.cancer.org/?campaign=nfl.
About Crucial Catch
The NFL, its clubs, players, the NFL Players Association, and the American Cancer Society are committed to the fight against cancer. Crucial Catch expands the impact of the NFL's work around breast cancer to address multiple types of cancer through early detection and risk reduction.
As part of the expanded Crucial Catch campaign, the NFL and American Cancer Society teamed to develop and provide individuals nationwide with The Defender, a free digital assessment tool that helps consumers better understand and reduce their cancer risk. The tool provides users with personalized, quick and informative recommendations on how they can take action and adapt their lifestyles to reduce their risk of cancer.
While all teams will support the overall league message of early detection and risk reduction, each team has elected to support either a specific cancer or multiple cancers for its 2019 Crucial Catch game

AYF PLAYOFFS - UPDATE
BACK TO BACK! JR PEE WIN STATE, ADVANCE TO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN FLORIDA!
UPDATE - JR PEE WEE Finish 3rd at Nationals!
Congratulations to the JR PEE WEE team on their second State Championship. The Storm jumped out early and never looked back, forging their way to a dominating 33-0 win. The team will now represent Phoenix AYF in the National Championships in early December.
Coach Erskine Graves is looking to improve on their 4th place finish last season, taking his 20-1 combined Phoenix AYF record of 19-1 over the past 2 seasons to challenge the best teams in the country.
STORM CADETS FINISH 4TH NATIONALLY
The Cadets finished 4th out of 64 D1 teams that were vying for the National Championship, completing a dream season. After upending perennial National Championship contender Winston 49ers (VA) 31-7 propelling them to the semi-final, the Cadets came up against the Winston Hornets (DC), losing a hotly contested game 14-8 to the eventual National Champions.
The 3rd place game was also a defensive battle, pitting the Southfield Falcons (MI) against our Cadets. While the boys could use a late night of fun at Universal Studios and a schedule change from afternoon to morning to rationalize the loss, they didn't and you wouldn't know it by the way they played. The Falcons had not given up a single point until the National Championships, and our boys played them tough, dropping the contest 13-6.
On behalf of the Storm, we would like to thank the Cadet parents for their commitment and sacrifice and also the coaches and players of our first National Championship contending team.
STORMFRONT WEEK IN REVIEW
Storm CADETS Reign Supreme at Sun Devil Stadium!
The Storm Cadets dominated a Soldiers team full of Veteran Coaches (3 time National Champions) on Veteran’s Day to claim the second State Championship in the 5 year AYF history of the program and the first to earn a berth to Florida. The Storm jumped out to an early lead with an 80 yard TD run and a pick 6, taking the Soldiers out of their game plan. The defense played disciplined ball with numerous stops in the red zone and very few penalties. It is on to Florida after the 27-0 shutout, and a bid for a National Championship!
The seasoned Junior Midget team, many of whom participated in the 2015 State Championship game fell short in their bid to end their 3 years together as State Champions. The Scottsdale Firebirds team led by legendary coach Matt Frazier got way more than they expected, falling behind 8-6 in a game highlighted by bone crushing defense and big plays. The difference in the game came on the opening kickoff of the second half, when the Firebirds return man broke a tackle and scampered into the end zone for a touchdown.
The Storm 14U provided early excitement by taking an early 8-6 lead against the 2 time defending National Champion Chandler Bears. After giving up a quick score, the 14U team answered on their first play from scrimmage, scoring on a 65 yard passing play. The extra point marked the first time this season that the Bears had trailed in a game. The undersized 14U battled on every play, never shying away from contact and kept their composure under relentless pressure. The venue was the prize for this team, and they showed a lot of pride and determination representing the Storm valiantly.
The State Championship games bring to a close the Storm Head Coaching careers of Sam Andrus and Mauri LeBlanc. We would like to thank each for their volunteerism and assistance in building the reputation of the Phoenix Storm as the premier youth football program in the Valley. As one of the Security Guards at Sun Devil Stadium and local AYF Coach put it, “The Storm is the Classiest program in PHXAYF!”
